Medtronic, Inc.

TEMPE, ARIZ. - May 14, 2014 - The Medtronic Tempe Campus, a manufacturing site for the world's leading medical technology company, has been named 2014 Manufacturer of the Year by the Arizona Manufacturers Council. The campus, located on a 30-acre site southeast of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, is home to a world-class microelectronics manufacturing facility and technology center.

"For this prestigious award, we select a manufacturer that produces superior products, provides high-quality jobs and shows a strong commitment to Arizona. Medtronic is outstanding in all three categories, and we are fortunate to have such a strong employer contributing to our economy," said Steve Macias, chairman of the Arizona Manufacturers Council.

Employees at the Tempe facility design, develop, manufacture and test microelectronics solutions used in Medtronic implantable devices, such as cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators, spinal cord stimulators for pain management and deep brain stimulators that address movement disorders.   The world's smallest pacemaker, the MicraTM Transcatheter Pacing system, and other products leveraging Medtronic's expertise in miniaturization are also manufactured at the site.

"This award is a credit to the 900 Arizona-based employees and their commitment to producing high-quality devices for patients," said Ron Wilson, vice president of operations and general manager of Medtronic Tempe Campus. "They play a critical role in helping the company fulfill its mission of alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life."

Medtronic has had operations in Arizona since 1973 and employees have a long tradition of contributing to the local Phoenix community. In 2013, the company provided $450,000 in health access grants to expand access to quality chronic disease care for the underserved. The company and its employees donated more than $400,000 to Valley of the Sun United Way campaign, and supported the American Heart Association Phoenix Heart Walk with more than $65,000.
